“Abundance is not held in the name of a thing or in ideas of ample quantities that we attach to affluence, but in the flow of life, in its riches of mind, body and soul in reciprocity with the creative energy of nature and the universe.” Annegret Affolderbach
Annegret Affolderbach is an ecological artist and cultural futurist. Her thought-provoking works awaken us to the unexpected, rooted in our ecologies, cultures and lifestyles. In sensuous and site-responsive collaborations with nature, she weaves together sensory artworks and ceremonial experiences. Endangered and culturally significant ecologies are the sites where her works originate and often return to; a circular act that honours people, place and the cycles of life.
Her creations emerge from daydreams within nature, moments of surrender that evoke a mingling of the sensory, visionary, creative, intellectual, emotional, somatic and spiritual, reminding us of our kinship with the more-than-human world.
For 20 years, she has worked across the global North and South, creating works centred around water, land, sustainability, over-consumption, and cultural transformation, addressing the human impacts on our life-giving ecologies. Her background in pioneering award-winning sustainable fashion brand Choolips, her co-creation of ‘For Water For Life . The Water Podcast’ – South Africa’s Top 20 podcast, and her role as WGSN Editor for Africa, have equipped her with unique insights and perspectives, making her an invaluable voice in the fields of art, fashion, culture and sustainability.
Her works are held in various art collections, including NIROX Foundation, Moleskine Foundation and private collections in the Northern and Southern hemispheres.
